Amazing what a good night's sleep will do for you
I think it's safe to say that Placebo's "Nancy Boy" is one of my new favorite songs.
Listening to this band is like coming home to that sleek, sophisticated, slightly dark side of me, the flip side of my dreamy, bohemian/hippie coin. She's still an writer, but she's a bit more of a hedonist, this side. Still uses as many natural products as possible, still recycles, still does all the socially responsible things...but isn't at all averse to sipping exotic drinks while shooting glances at the lovely boys at the next table over. (I also feel like I should be gracefully holding a cigarette while I do it, but I don't smoke and have no desire to start, especially not for something as stupid as keeping up appearances.)
It's a complicated thing, really. I'm not even sure I have a complete handle on it, but I know it's there, and I know Placebo activates it.
Funny how music does that, eh?

On New Year's Eve, 1999, I remember hoping that the 21st century would see us all become more tolerant, responsible people. Sadly, it appears that we all have a long way to go.
"When you are a man sometimes you wear stretchy pants in your room. It's for fun." The New York Times gives Nacho Libre a favorable review, leaves me to ponder the question, "Do men really wear stretchy pants in their room for fun?"
A while ago, I asked if there was a such thing as Fair Trade Chai. The ever-lovely
kana_jo gave me a recipe for homemade chai that I am eager to try when I get the chance. However, for those who are busy (like me), or just not handy in the kitchen, I am pleased to report that a company called Equo does, in fact, make organic Fair Trade chai, among other Fair Trade items. I've tried it, and it's pretty darn good! (x-posted to
